High school VISSTA
Friday March 21st 2014
The day went well with visiting schools St Stephen's Rome and I.S.Trieste both seeming happy with the hospitality shown them.
On the sports field EISP finished the day very happy, winning both girls volleyball and boys football.
Girls volleyball
St Stephen's Rome looked good in the warm up and EISP couldn't have believed that they would go out clear winners, but they did. The troop led by Martina Avanzo was composed of Anna Del Biondi, Carlotta Iccolti, Domitilla Stefani, Susanna Montaner, Emma Boccardo, Caterina Gasperini and Vittoria DeLazzer.
A good spirited game finished 2-0 to EISP, who promptly lifted the trophy, which was never to be seen again.
Boys football
The tournament was organised by Jacopo Tosato and Gianpaolo Pietrobiasi and the team was captained by Giulio Bacco and was composed of the above plus Adrien DeThoisy, Giacomo Rosà, a strong physical defence of Nicolò Perale and Cesare Muraro and Alberto Bosco and Ussamma Saajad in attack. After losing in three consecutive mediteranean cups vs St Stephens, the year 12s were desperate for one last victory before riding off into the glorious sunset that is adulthood.
They didn't get it but they got penalties with a 1-1 draw and Cesare Muraro was the unfortunate soul who had the misfortune of blasting the deciding penalty into the stratosphere.
EISP then went into the next match vs Trieste needing a win to keep their hopes alive.
They got it, In a very physical match Adrien DeThoisy rising like a very tall Lebron James with high heels on and slamming a header right into the top corner of the improbably low net. 1-0 the end result.
This meant that St Stephen's went against Trieste to try and win the tournament.
A great match in which the referee, Mr Cotier didn't blow the whistle even once in the first half finished 3-1 to Trieste despite a great midfield performance by Alessandro of St Stephens on a very bumpy rough pitch.
This put the trophy in the hands of EISP due to their gaining points from the penalty shoot out vs Rome.
I have been here eight years and in that time a girls volleyball team from EISP had never won a game until today so well done girls.
Likewise, our boys haven't won a trophy since the provincials calcetto in 2011 so well done to them as well.
Well done boys and girls and thanks to all participating teams for the great and competitive spirit in which all the games were played.
