VISSTA VII went off with a delayed bang on Thursday 20th of November here at EISP.
It was the biggest ever event with over 180 guests on site and about 80 of our own involved. Events were compacted into four tournaments this time for simplicity and all visiting guests reported that it was the best organized ever, many sending letters of recommendation and thanks to the organizer, Mr Cotier. The sports were well contested, even though, after 4 years and 7 events there seems to be emerging a trend in the schools that are strong in certain sports. EISP ourselves had teams in all four finals, for probably our best ever result. Vicenza, Rosà were again dominant in the girls' volleyball, testament to their PE teacher Miss Nosadini (Romina) running a regular club in that sport. For the 6th time they walked away with the girls volleyball trophy. That is no coincidence! Treviso boys won a tough boys 7 a side football tournament for the third consecutive time, beating EISP green 3-1 in the final. No coincidence there either! Their coaches Mr Moll and Richard the West Ham fan will be hoping to translate this success onto the bigger stage of the Mediteranean cup in Verona next May, and hopefully at VISSTA VIII in the spring at EISP. EISP were victorious in boys' basketball with a comfortable win over Vicenza in the final for their second consecutive basketball trophy. ESIP will be hard pressed to find worthy successors to Riccardo Visone, Pietro Massaro and Giacomo Casiraghi who have played their last VISSTA event, although the year 6 boys Nicolò Zanetti and Omar Saadoui looked promising. EISP were also victorious in the girls futsal tournament. Both EISP white and EISP Walsall won all of their group games and played against each other in the final match to decide the winners. EISP white winning 1-0 thanks to a Matilde Zangrande goal. EISP Walsall had loads of ball and loads of chances to score mainly through the two new Danish girls Matilda Voghnsen and Isabella Pedersen, but Irene Dian was a rock in the goal and they always managed to get a foot or hand in at the very last second to prevent EISP Walsall getting a goal. The last minute saw Pedersen running through towards goal only for Vittoria Braggion to throw her body and soul into the way of her in a desperate lunge, probably winning EISP white the match. see link below for some comparable actions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJ-82u_SC5c EISP have now won three of the five girls football tournaments at VISSTA and came second in the other two. No coincidence either (says their coach hee hee;) Sincere thanks to Barbarigo, Venice and Trieste for making it along as well Hopefully next time you'll pick up a few trophies yourselves! |
